How to Create Your own Unique Clipart

I am currently in the process of re-branding one of my new clients multimedia appearance, which includes to reverse-engineer the website, and to design and produce new header imagery for the website and Social Media, as well as for all marketing collateral. The old header image included a tree, yet since that is a very generic clipart, and this one was in particular, my clients wished for something different.

She loves tree frogs and what they stand for, so I researched tree frog imagery and clipart, but could not find any that may fit the new color scheme well.

This is what I have found and was not happy with…since they look cheap and too generic…

“If you can’t find it – Create it!”

AND SO I DID 😉

So here is how I did it in a few steps, which you can apply to create Your own Unique Clipart;

1. Pick an image you like best

I chose images to start my editing process…

All images have their own advantages; while the first is much more color intense, the second has a transparent background already, which means that you have less editing to do, and the third has a white background.

2. Utilize your Magic Wand Tool or Transparent Background Tool

Depending what type of image you start of with, utilize your magic wand tool, which is available in any good graphic design software toolkit. If you don’t have a magic wand tool, you can use the rubber tool instead, however the outcome may be less professional, as I will show you in the below image;

As you can see, using the rubber tool means that you have to zoom in much more and work a little harder to get rid of the background.

3. Overlay an Art Filter

This step is fairly easy, if your graphic design software includes art filters, however if it doesn’t, you may have to add a 2nd mixed color blend layer on your image instead.

4. Cut out your image by utilizing your Magic Wand Tool or Transparent Background Tool

Rubber Tool vs TBT/Magic Wand

Once again if you have no magic wand tool or transparent background tool in your toolbox, the outcome is less impressive, however if you give yourself time to erase the background, it will work well too. Or if you use an image which has had a transparent background in the first place, you will save time and your outcome may be much better. In any case your image will be unique!

Bring Your Vision to Life in 2018

UoC MBA Graduation Naomi Mc Laughlan Watercolour Gif

In life and in business everything happens either with or without your input; if you don’t plan your days, weeks and year in advance, someone or something WILL come along and “demand”/ or ask for your attention – same goes for business; if you don’t map out where you want to be, in let’s say 12 months from now, you will end up somewhere, but the questions is ‘Will you be happy, fulfilled and financially save at that destination?’

As we are about to conclude 2017, I have taken the time to reflect on what worked, what didn’t and where I want to apply change in the upcoming year, to achieve my list of goals.

In grand total, I can say that 2017, for me, was the year of ‘Successful Completion’, as I have been able to graduate not once but twice at Uni, I have been able to complete two new books, while another 3 are already in the pipeline AND one of my three children has achieved his first BIG step at Uni too.

But not all was rosy and happy in 2017, we lost my stepfather this year, 7 years after we lost my mother. Shock and sadness to say the least…And has highlighted for me how truly unpredictable and short life can be.

I have also experienced betrayal of a former friend, yet another wake-up call for me to listen to my inner guidance much more often, as I saw it coming from Day 1 and yet overlooked it for too long!

Life is a roller coaster ride, including ALL the Ups and Downs – hence it makes it even more important to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve for yourself and your family, as well as your business.

2018 is a New Beginning – A New Clean Sheet in YOUR BOOK OF LIFE!

What are you looking forward to? What are your Goals and Dreams?

Ultimate Success Smackdown!

Ultimate Success Naomi Mc Laughlan

Goal setting is the true secret to success in any area of life. But although setting a goal may seem simple, achieving it is usually another question altogether.

Why is that?

Because you will never achieve your goals unless you: (1) know exactly what you want, (2) are passionate about your goal, and (3) have a solid, realistic plan of action. This is what marks the difference between nebulous dreams and wishes – and truly achievable goals!

Many obstacles and challenges will fly right in your face when you’re going after a goal.

Here are 5 Time-tested Methods that will Help get the Success You Deserve;

1. Know exactly what your goal is

Your first job is to discover exactly what your goal is. What will achieving that goal really look like? Be as specific as possible about exactly what your desired end result is. Your success will be a measure of your clarity – since an achievable goal plan cannot be created around a nebulous “dream.”

If your goal is to create a more successful business, what will that look like? Are you thinking in terms of simply hiring someone else to give you more free time? Are you looking for a very specific monthly profit? Or can your goal be best expressed in terms of a certain lifestyle?

Regardless of what you want, the best way to get it is to first clarify exactly what you want in as much detail as possible. This can be hard work. But without a clear mental picture, you’ll never have the focus required to achieve your goal.

2. Be willing to pay the opportunity cost aka “entry fee”

Success takes dedicated planning and effort. In a way it’s like building a house. In the beginning all you have is a rough concept. Then you develop a complete set of plans – and you immediately move closer to success. The same is true of creating a better lifestyle, or a more successful business.

But there’s always an *entry fee* to be paid for success.

The entry fee?

Creating more success in your business may mean less recreational time. Writing your own book may require less TV. Being closer to your children may require adjusting your work or social activities.

It’s the “full glass” deal. If your life (your time) is already full to the top, there’s no room for something new. The entry fee is carving out the time to create that something new.

3. Focus on your goal every day

I’m sure you probably want to achieve your goal as fast as possible. That’s why clear mental focus is so very important.

Consistent daily focus is absolutely necessary to “burn in” the new neural pathways you need to create your new goal. Without daily focus, the old mental habits that have kept you from your goal will continue to take over.

This happens automatically – since these old habits replay 24/7 deep in your subconscious mind. The only way to override subconscious anti-success messages is to consciously focus on what you DO want – and build new neural networks!

That’s why success is an every-day event.

Re-commit to your goal every day. Don’t let your goal take a back seat to the daily tasks and distractions that will try to take over. Life WILL try to get in your way. Just get, and stay, on course every day. Focus on your goal, and on success!

4. Get passionate

One of the most powerful tools in your “success tool box” is having real passion for your goal.

Why passion?

Because intense passionate desire for your goal will help you burn in those new neural pathways even faster. Many, many scientific studies have shown that intense emotion (passion) is a key success tool.

PLUS (and this is really a *big* plus), intense passion will also help you rapidly override any inappropriate old “failure messages” stored in your subconscious mind.

5. Take consistent action

In many ways, actually taking action can be the most difficult step. Successful goal achievement is built by taking one small action after another.

Unlock Your Natural Creativity

creativity-naomi-mc-laughlan

We all have the power to be creative. It’s part of our natural make-up as human beings. The trouble is that, too often, we sabotage our natural creativity. Lack Creativity? …

Here are 7 Ways to Unlock Your Natural Creativity

1. Don’t Make Assumptions.

Assumptions are examples of lazy thinking. We simply don’t wait to get all the information we need to come to the right conclusions.

Tip: When you feel yourself wanting to draw conclusions, just wait until you have all the information.

2. See Things from Other Points of View.

A truly open mind is willing to accept that, not only do other people have other just as valid points of view from theirs, but that these other points of view may be more valid.

Tip: Don’t have a monopoly on how things are. Things aren’t always what they seem. Be ready to consider other points of view.

3. Avoid Yo-Yo Thinking.

Some people tend to have a tendency to swing from a highly positive mood one minute to a highly negative one the next, all because of what they see in front of them. It’s like a yo-yo: up one minute, down the next. It’s far healthier to stay neutral and not let emotions get the better of you.

Tip: Remember that things are rarely as good – or as bad – as you think they are.

4. Get Rid of Lazy Thinking Habits.

Habit can be a major stumbling block to clear thinking and another example of laziness.

Tip: Don’t think that, just because things happened in a certain way once before, that they will happen like that again.

5. Don’t Think Like an Old Person, Think Like a Child.

Research shows that the number of synapses, or connections, in the brain is greater in a child of two than in an average adult. The reason for this is that, while a child of two has no limiting world view, as adults we do. It’s like a sculptor who starts off with a large block of clay, more than he needs, and then gradually removes the clay as he moulds his sculpture. If we use our brain like a child, accepting everything without judgment, we can actually halt and reverse the brain ageing process.

Tip: Don’t worry about the myth of age. With the right stimulus and a passion for learning, you can actually improve your brain’s powers.

6. See The Detail as well as The Big Picture.

You may know the poem by John Godfrey Saxe called “The Blind Men and the Elephant”. This tells how six blind men of Indostan go to see an elephant and each try to work out what it is from touching it. One blind man touches the tusk, another the trunk, another the tail, and so on. Of course, not being able to see the whole elephant, they come to wildly different conclusions.

Tip: Try to keep the big picture in front of you while looking at details. It will help to put everything in its proper place and context.

7. Think for Yourself.

Taking time out to think is still frowned on in many organizations that prize activity over creativity. People who work in creativity-constrained organizations are likely to think the way they are supposed to think, or as others think, or as has always been the way to think. It’s like the blinkered thinking that Hans Christian Anderson describes in his story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. Everyone in the land refuses to see that the emperor is naked and has been duped into believing he is wearing a splendid costume for his coronation. Only a young boy who has been ill and not party to the cultural brainwashing can see the truth and cries out: “Look, everyone, the Emperor is wearing no clothes!”

Tip: Don’t let others tell you how to think. When others ask your opinion, tell it to them straight.

Once you make these 7 techniques part of your habitual thinking patterns, you will amaze yourself with how easy it is to come up with fresh, innovative and creative solutions to all of life’s problems.

Interactive Communication through Videoblogging & Live Video for Your Biz

episode-23

Web 2.0 or better known as Social Media has not only emerged to share personal views and ideas, but can also be utilized for business purposes, which of cause isn’t news, its common practice.

However, while many individuals have become quite popular through videoblogging or vlogging on a regular basis, not many entrepreneurs and business owners have discovered this to be a great opportunity to present their services and / or products in a two-way conversation and engage interactively with their viewers.

Videoblogging is the next generation of posting ideas and products over the internet, especially because you can do so via Google+ Hangout or Facebook Live, while it simultaneously gets recording. Everybody knows about blogging or sharing content in another multimedia way. While a recorded video is great, and pictures say a thousand words, videoblogging exceeds that by far.

Videoblogging works with people on the internet expressing their selves. Now if you put this on a business prospective, you are up to a lot of benefits. Think of it as a powerful tool in making showing your prospective customers your line of products or your services. It’s just like showing a commercial all for free. And if you video blog on a specific topic, create a great headline and write a keyword rich description, you can increase the interest of your target market.

People like to see what they are going to buy. Some would like to see proof and be sure that they are getting their money’s worth before shelving their dimes on it. All of us know the influence of a thirty second commercial. The effect of videoblogging is similar to that. You show your product, people watch it. If they like it, they buy it. If you present it good enough, they’ll buy the product even if they don’t need it.

Now on the web, much content is still static or pre-recorded, but if you post something that is mobile and interactive, you will most likely catch attention. Now imaging your product parading in all its royalty through videoblog. You’ll get orders in no time.

If your business is just starting up, you can create a videoblog right at your own home. All you need is your web camera, microphone, video software, and lights. As long as you know how to use your camera, and have downloaded the mobile apps of the Social Media platforms, you can create a Facebook or Instagram Live cast. Your viewers can interact with you by commenting in the chat box, while you are able to prompt them to ask questions about your service or products.

Invest in a good web camera, although in most cases you can use your smartphone placed on a tripod. Lights are important in a production. Make sure you illuminate entirely the area you are going to use to create videoblog. The brighter the area, the crispier the images will be. You can also use lighting effects for added appeal to the presentation. So if your room is dark, you may choose to film outside to get natural light, otherwise you can get affordable a ‘Selfie Ring Light’ that attaches to your phone or a more sophisticated large studio ring light. Select your background carefully too. The light affects the presentation so make sure that the background and the light complements each other.

Sounds are as important as videos on a videoblog; you could just use your phones headphones or get a wireless microphone with transmitter and receiver, which usually comes with a clip, to create an even more professional broadcast. Or is you record your videoblog via webcam your PC, laptop or Mac will record your voice most likely anyway.
If you go ‘Facebook or Instagram Live’, there is of cause initially no editing involved. Lucky you! – Every video is live cast is recorded, which means you can download the video in HD quality afterwards, and edit anything you wish to change, before uploading it as your vlog to your video sharing platform, e.g. YouTube.

Your video editing software can be any program. You need this to finalize your work. You can add sounds, delete some bad angles, or insert some still pictures in there too. Some programs are user-friendly and can be used even with zero knowledge on video editing. Even simple video editing programs should do the trick. Also, YouTube, for example, offers you free editing within your video editor dashboard.
Lastly, the more creative you are in presenting your product or service to the market, the more you are likely to succeed. Videoblogging offers an interactive way of selling, because your customers can get involved. You instil in them the advantage of your goods. And at times, those are enough to make a sale.
