How to Create Your own Unique Clipart

I am currently in the process of re-branding one of my new clients multimedia appearance, which includes to reverse-engineer the website, and to design and produce new header imagery for the website and Social Media, as well as for all marketing collateral. The old header image included a tree, yet since that is a very generic clipart, and this one was in particular, my clients wished for something different.

She loves tree frogs and what they stand for, so I researched tree frog imagery and clipart, but could not find any that may fit the new color scheme well.

This is what I have found and was not happy with…since they look cheap and too generic…

“If you can’t find it – Create it!”

AND SO I DID 😉

So here is how I did it in a few steps, which you can apply to create Your own Unique Clipart;

1. Pick an image you like best

I chose images to start my editing process…

All images have their own advantages; while the first is much more color intense, the second has a transparent background already, which means that you have less editing to do, and the third has a white background.

2. Utilize your Magic Wand Tool or Transparent Background Tool

Depending what type of image you start of with, utilize your magic wand tool, which is available in any good graphic design software toolkit. If you don’t have a magic wand tool, you can use the rubber tool instead, however the outcome may be less professional, as I will show you in the below image;

As you can see, using the rubber tool means that you have to zoom in much more and work a little harder to get rid of the background.

3. Overlay an Art Filter

This step is fairly easy, if your graphic design software includes art filters, however if it doesn’t, you may have to add a 2nd mixed color blend layer on your image instead.

4. Cut out your image by utilizing your Magic Wand Tool or Transparent Background Tool

Rubber Tool vs TBT/Magic Wand

Once again if you have no magic wand tool or transparent background tool in your toolbox, the outcome is less impressive, however if you give yourself time to erase the background, it will work well too. Or if you use an image which has had a transparent background in the first place, you will save time and your outcome may be much better. In any case your image will be unique!

71 Days have already past in 2018! How far have you come???

Naomi Mc Laughlan New York 2018

I am sure that you have set yourself and your business up for success at the end of 2017 by setting goals you want to accomplish in 2018, right?!
So today I am wondering how far you have come, considering the fact that we are 71 days into 2018 today – 1. January 2018 – 14. March 2018 – 71 Days!!!

Have you created a clear map or list of things you plan to accomplish this year?

  • Have you been able to take daily action?
  • Are your goals aligned with your overall vision for your business and life?
  • Are you open-minded to new opportunities?
  • Have you allowed ‘shiny objects’ to distract you?
  • What do you need to change in your behaviour to course correct? Course correct according to the Urban Dictionary (2018) describes “… a process is happening, you would realize improvements are needed so you would make improvement during the process without restarting from the beginning.”

I am always happy to ‘hop on a call’ with you and discuss how you can achieve your business goals!

Organic Reach through Hashtags

You can increase Your Reach, Traffic and Ultimately Sales, by using Hashtags to your Advantage!

Hashtags are meta tags, which categorize posts on the internet, including on Social Media to make it easier for someone searching a specific topic to find content posts about them.
Using Hashtags strategically and consistently will help you to grow the number of people who can find your brand and buy your products and services.

Hashtags work wonders, especially on Instagram, however, as many accounts use them nowadays it is no longer enough to add a few random Hastags, once in a while, as that will not get you on top of the list.
If you think you need a massive following, you may be surprised to learn that this is not the case.

I consistently apply a Hastag Strategy  (same as I advice all my clients to do) and it has helped me (and them) to increase my reach, following and sales.

Take a look at a few examples of my most recent posts and how they have been positioned;
When you look at them closely, you will see how many posts are in the category, and yet mine are top posts!!! Yours can too!!!

Screenshot_Naomi Mc Laughlan Instagram Top Post Hashtag resourcesScreenshot_Naomi Mc Laughlan Instagram Top Post Hashtag strategy.png  Screenshot_Naomi Mc Laughlan Instagram Top Post Hashtag muenster

Using the Hashtag ‘#Resources,’ for example, has positioned my post #1, in a total of 122,295 total posts!’#Strategy’ has 762,155 public posts and my posts is the #1 Top Post! I have scored Top Post #1 & #2, as you can see with the ‘#muenster’ Hashtag, which is a medium sized city in West Germany where I grew up!

I share all about positioning and how to apply a Hashtag Strategy in my latest book ‘Social Media Marketing: #2 in the Start-Ups on a Shoestring Budget Series’, which you can get via Amazon.
By the way, you do not need to have a Kindle to read the book, you can read it on your phone, online or by using the Amazon app too!

What does applying Global Goals actually mean for Businesses?

What does applying Global Goals actually mean for businesses?

A few days ago, someone in my business network commented under a post of mine, which was a link to my latest Amazon International Bestseller ‘How to apply Global goals to Your Business; ‘ The #1 Guide to becoming Greener, Leaner, and more Profitable by applying the 17 Sustainable Development Goals’.

What I quickly realized was that he misunderstood the meaning of ‘Global Goals’, based on his comment, which was “I don’t apply global goals. They’re totally irrelevant to my very local business of photography. I need people to be with me. Not on the other side of the world. Otherwise how do I take their photos?” (see below).

What he meant was internationalization, which in short refers to trading abroad.

GlobalGoalsConversation Sensored Naomi Mc Laughlan

That’s, of cause, not meant when looking at Global Goals, but instead it is the common term most people use to refer to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (aka Global Goals or SDGs).

My main thought was, ‘Wow! There are still business owners who don’t know anything about Global Goals and how to apply them to their business, hence take neither ownership, leadership nor value the opportunity that presents itself.

By the way, this post is not meant to name and shame anyone, hence why I covered the persons name. It is rather a realization what still needs to be done; which is to spread the word about the necessity and opportunity of applying Global Goals.

Learning about the Global Goals, yet still considering that only multinational enterprises should concern themselves with the topic at hand, is in my opinion a failure.

We are ALL in this together!!! We all have the responsibility, especially as business owners, big and small, as well as as citizens in our communities alike. And, NO, we don’t have to try to apply ALL 17 SDGs, but rather make an informed choice based on what applies to our business or living environment, business aims and practical considerations. It is a matter of Pick & Choose – Then consistently APPLY.

There are many great examples, of businesses who apply Global Goals, which show leadership roles in their industries, hence this reflects positively back how consumers perceive their efforts. Meanwhile it raises standards and improves our lives on a society level, as well as has a considerable positive impact on the environment .  Even small scale projects can make a huge difference for the people involved, from the free meal for a homeless person, beach clean-ups or providing free education or medicine to war torn countries and everything in between. Applying Global Goals starts at home, hence why any business can get involved and make a difference.
