Business Success during the Global Pandemic; KICK Covid in the butt!

Starting and growing a successful business may look easy from the outside looking in, however when you are ‘in’ it, you may realize that you have to ‘give it your all’ on a daily basis. It is general knowledge that 50% of businesses close within the first five years of operating, while many entrepreneurs are left with dept as a result of it.

Moreover, according to Yelp data, 60% of permanent business closures are due to the coronavirus pandemic. As of Aug, 31, 163,735 businesses have indicated on Yelp that they have closed, a 23% increase since mid-July.

Especially, right now during the pandemic, it is even more important than ever that you ACT in a professional manner. Unlike in corporations, especially solo-prenuers and small business owners find it difficult to stay consistently motivated to continue with their daily routines, in particular due to new regulations and reduced demand from customers and clients, in my experience.

Nevertheless, especially start-ups, solo-preneurs and small business owners with little or no cash reserves, are less likely to be able to take it easy right now. Instead, NOW is the time to ‘out-do’ your competition.

‘Out-doing’ may include;

• to increase the frequency of your Social Media posts,
• to seek to be featured in the local, national and international press,
• to reduce costs, while maintaining high quality standards,
• to say NO to shiny objects that distract you from your overall business goals/objectives,
• to say YES to improved business operations,
• to improve your skill- and knowledge base (check out my new webinar series),
• to STOP giving freebies away (this applies also to free advice for family and friends), unless it aligns with your overall business goals/objectives,
• to improve your products and services, in a cost-effective manner, e.g. Research & Development.
